Rolling News

Big Saturday incoming.
This week brings the small matter of a 245 km lap of the Weald — otherwise known as “a nice little spin” if you’re Richard Williams or Peter Baker and have lost all perspective.
Whether you’re going the full distance, joining for a section, or simply turning out to support the hardy fools taking it on, it should be a memorable club day.
We’ve also got the usual Saturday and Sunday social riding, Chain Gang, Wednesday Slackers, an extended deadline for Anniversary kit orders, another call for Circuit of Laughton volunteers, and the chance to register interest in a Lee Valley Velodrome session.
🚴 The Long Ride - Saturday 16 May
The day is nearly upon us. A 245 km/149 mile lap of the Weald. What could possibly go wrong?! Try to do it all, or join in for as much as you want. Either way, come and show your support. No drop, short stops.
Roll out: 8:00 am
Duration: Approx. 10 hours, including the stops.
Start Location: Boots, Uckfield
Route: Lap of the High Weald (travelling clockwise)
Dress Code: Club kit preferred
☕️ Saturday Social - Saturday 16 May
For those who prefer their Saturdays with fewer existential questions, Paget will lead a Z1/Z2 ride from The Forge to Proper in Hassocks.
Roll out: 9:00 am
Duration: Approx. 3 hours, including the coffee stop.
Start Location: The Forge, Ringmer
Dress Code: Club kit expected
☕️ Sunday Social - Sunday 17 May
Final details are weather-dependent, so keep an eye on the group chat and the forecast. If a ride goes ahead, it will start in Uckfield and loop to the Forge to collect Lewes-based participants.
Roll out: 8:30 am
Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop.
Start Location: Boots, Uckfield (Forge Ringmer 9:00)
Dress Code: Club kit expected
⛓️ Chain Gang - Tuesday 19 May
Unseize your legs from the Long One with a tempo-to-threshold effort around the Broyle. Think of it as part recovery ride, part training for the Circuit of Laughton the following week.
Roll out: 5:45 pm (for 6:00 pm start)
Duration: Approx. 1.5 hours
Start Location: The Forge, Ringmer
Dress Code: Club kit preferred
☕️ Wednesday Slackers - Wednesday 20 May
The Slackers will be posting their “Out of Office” replies on Wednesday morning as usual. Give the chat a thumbs up if you’re in. The ride runs according to demand, so check it’s happening before you show up.
Roll out: 9:00 am
Duration: Approx. 3 hours
Start Location: The Village Shop, Barcombe
Dress Code: Come as you like
👕 Anniversary Shop
Good news. The technical hitch with the Anniversary Shop link in last week’s Rolling News has now been fixed. To make up for the lost week, the closing date has been extended to 25 May. If you tried and failed last week, please try again. Kalas estimates shipment of recent Fractal orders will happen on 19 June. This means they should be available for collection around 22 June. 🏁 Circuit of Laughton
The Circuit of Laughton is on Wednesday 27 May, and is inching ever closer.
We’re still looking for volunteers, so if you can spare a couple of hours on the evening, please raise a hand. Marshalling is one of those jobs that earns gratitude from everyone, and gives you that rare chance to stand near a road junction looking official.
Riders can sign up here, too.
🚴 Lee Valley Velodrome
A new block of club track sessions has been released by Lee Valley Velodrome. If there’s enough demand, the club will cover the cost of the session and one specialist coach. Club sessions last for two hours and are available on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoons at 4:00 pm. If you’ve ever fancied riding the boards, this is a brilliant chance to give it a go. | ![]() |
If you could be interested, let us know, and we’ll coordinate a date.

For Richard W 😉🇪🇸😂
Till next time,
The Wandering Crew
