Round 6 of the Evening 10 may have been stopped by a fallen power line, but the club itself is very much switched on as we hit another milestone — and, as it turns out, we’ve even been flirting with TV fame.

This week we’ve got the Forge Ride, the Sunday Social, and another crack at the Evening 10, plus a heads-up on the gravel trip to the Isle of Wight for Saturday week.

🚴 Forge Ride - Saturday 11 July

The Forge Ride is taking on the Seaford Loop this week, going via Wilmington and over Chapel Hill. Approx 60 km. Faster/Training ride.

  • Roll out: 9:15 am

  • Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: The Forge, Ringmer

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

☕️ Sunday Social - Sunday 12 July

Paget is leading this week’s Sunday Social to Hope Cottage, Hooe, which, we’re told, is in the direction of Ninfield. In Paget, we trust.

  • Roll out: 8:30 am

  • Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: Boots, Uckfield

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

🏁 Evening 10 - Monday 13 July

After last week’s disappointment, we’re doubly determined to make Round #7 of the Evening 10 series one to remember. All it needs is you and your bike down at Laughton.

Ah well, it had to happen at some point. Our perfect run of form was broken by a lorry bringing down a power line on the circuit.

All attempts at negotiating safe passage were thwarted by workers quite reasonably prioritising riders not electrocuting themselves over PBs. We had to say, fair enough, and the event was cancelled.

We’re looking at options to reschedule Round 6. For now, the focus shifts to Round 7.

Points Competition

Unsurprisingly no event on Monday means no movement in the points competition.

It does, however, give us the opportunity to feature one of the other leaderboards.

In the women’s competition, Alice Gilmore sits just ahead of Olivia Webb, but there’s still time for a late charge from riders further down the table.

Next Week

Next Monday is week 7 in our series of 8.

We’ve added “check nobody has crashed into any power lines” to our pre-event checklist, and have every confidence we’ll get people off the line.

Make sure you sign up. Fees paid for Week 6 can, of course, be carried over.

💯 Welcome Member #100!

We love celebrating a milestone, and it’s fabulous to welcome Richard Brazier as our 100th active member.

Less than a year ago, we welcomed Chris Hurcomb as member #75, which speaks volumes about the momentum around the club at the moment. Honestly, it’s great to be part of.

🎥 We might have been famous

A well-kept secret (until now) is that the club has been in discussions with the producers of Rob and Romesh Vs.

We’ve been exploring the possibility of Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan joining this year’s Hill Climb.

As it turned out, filming schedules couldn’t be aligned and the creative direction of the planned episode shifted.

Never mind. It was exciting to be approached, and it’s another feather in the cap for the club. The committee will be hanging up its BAFTA outfits for another year.

🚴 Destination Pippingford

Seven intrepid Wanderers headed to Pippingford Park for the inaugural Destination Gravel race last weekend, and it’s fair to say the club - and the event - made its mark.

With brilliant debut rides, podium places, mechanical drama and plenty of dust, it was a superb first outing for the team at a brand-new event. There’s already talk of next year, which tells you everything.

⛵️ Isle of Wight - 18 July

The planned gravel ride on the Isle of Wight is officially ON.

The plan is to get the 09:15 ferry from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde and return to Portsmouth on the 18:15.

There’s plenty of room for anybody who wants to join the group. The route and pace will be set to suit all abilities.

📺 TdF at The Black Horse

The Tour will continue showing in the back bar. This week’s highlights are:

Stage 8 — Saturday 11 July: Périgueux to Bergerac. One for the sprinters, with the Dordogne providing the scenery.
Stage 10 — Tuesday 14 July: Aurillac to Le Lioran. A Bastille Day climbing stage through the Massif Central.
