This week’s Rolling News has a distinctly “give it a go” feel.

We’ve got June’s off-road ride rolling out from Bake Out on Sunday (yes, Sunday), the Sunday Social heading out from Uckfield, and Race #2 in our Evening 10 Series on a newly adapted course on Monday.

Talking of 10s, we’re announcing our Ladies 10 on 15 June. We’d love to see as many women as possible on the start line in a supportive, women-first field. Come and try it if you haven’t done a TT before.

Add in the latest points competition standings, more details on the long-distance heroics from Adam and Nick, and the usual dose of Wanderers’ World humour, and you should be good to go for another week.

🌳 Off-Road Ride - Sunday 7 June

The off-road ride has moved to Sunday this week due to the weather forecast. We’ve got A & B groups going again, with routes designed to match pace and ability. Neither will be short-changed on the views!

  • Roll out: 9:15 am

  • Duration: Approx. 3 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: Bake Out, Lewes

  • Dress Code: Club kit preferred

☕️ Sunday Social - Sunday 7 June

The Sunday Social heads out to Washbrooks Farm this week - ideal for anyone who prefers tarmac under their tyres on their Sunday spin.

  • Roll out: 8:30 am

  • Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: Boots, Uckfield (with pick-up from Forge, Ringmer 9:00 am)

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

🏁 Evening 10 - Monday 8 June

Event #2 in our Evening 10 Series takes place on Monday on an adapted Ringmer circuit (see below for details). We had a strong turnout last week and would love to see the same again this week.

Last Week’s Results

A strong field of 18 riders made for a great competition in the TT, Road Bike and Women’s categories.

Michael Renardson flew the club flag by taking the overall win on his TT bike in a time of 21’55”. This was despite strong and very welcome competition from Eastbourne Rovers.

New member Calum Elms continued his strong recent form by running away with the road bike category in a time of 22’44”.

Olivia Webb, also a new member, took the women’s competition in a time of 26’15”. Go Olivia!

Points Competition

After three events, Dan Street leads on 26, with Michael Renardson close behind on 24. The big move is Michael’s win in the Evening 10, while Calum Elms and Richard Burchett both enter the table strongly.

Course News

Roadworks on The Broyle mean we have had to adapt our course.

We have CTT approval to run the events on 8, 15 and 22 June on an adapted version of the GS/836 Circuit of Laughton course, with a detour down Half Mile Drove to cut out the roadworks. We avoid the A22, and we think you’re going to love it! Check out the course here.

Ladies 10 ✨✨

Drum roll, please… we’re designating the Evening 10 on 15 June as the Ladies 10.

We want to encourage as many women as possible to give the event a go in a supportive, women-first atmosphere. So ladies, put 15 June in your diaries. This one’s for you!

If there is anything we can do to make you feel comfortable entering, please let Women’s Representative, Mugs Gohl, know.

Men can still ride and record a time, but will start at the back of the field, and with a suitable time gap to keep the women’s competition clear.

🥲 Crit Cancelled

You may have heard that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Lewes Wanderers Crit.

Entry numbers were below the level needed to make the event viable and, after several years of losses, cancellation was the only responsible decision in terms of protecting members’ subscriptions.

We’ll now look ahead and focus our time and resources on areas where participation is growing, including off-road, gravel, time trials, club rides and other events that are attracting strong support from members and guests.

Big thanks to John Powell and Darren Benedict Haynes for their hard work in preparing for this year’s race. We’re all sad that it’s not happening.

 👏 Big Miles, Bigger Stories

How far is too far?

For Adam Goward and Nick Miles, the answer appears to be somewhere beyond the point most of us would start looking for a train home!

Adam’s 400km New Forest audax brought heat, cramp, and valuable lessons ahead of LEJOG, while Nick tackled the inaugural 300km Aethelred Ultra Gravel Race, riding through the night to finish an excellent 9th overall.
