The Evening 10s are done and dusted, the champions have been crowned and the podium, if we had one, would be on its way back into storage.

But there’s no time to put your feet up: we’ve got the Forge Ride and a self-supported Sunday Social this weekend, Adam Goward has redefined the meaning of a long ride, Paget has a fast new pride and joy, and we’ve discovered a little slice of Switzerland in Sussex.

🏁 Evening 10 Series

This Week’s Results

First woman back on a road bike was Maddie Jackson (Eastbourne Rovers) in 26:23. A special mention goes to C2 para-athlete Eve Wright (Eastbourne Rovers) whose adjusted time of 27:42 placed her third.

Points Competition

We can now declare the results of the Evening 10 competition. As a reminder, the Evening 10 Series is based on the club’s eight Evening 10 events, including the two 2-Ups. Only the best five results count.

Drum roll, please… 🥁

In first place in the Open Road Bike category, with a perfect score of 60 points, is Calum Elms. Chris Hurcomb comes in second with 50 points, just pipping Dan Street on 44.

In the Women’s competition, the plaudits go to Olivia Webb, who also scored a perfect 60 points, putting her comfortably ahead of second-placed Alice Gilmore (36) and Emma Simpkins (30).

The TT competition was wrapped up by Peter Baker, who finished just two points shy of a perfect score, with 58 points. Richard Burchett’s four run-outs were enough to give him second place on 44 points, with Ben Gregory securing third with 36.

Wow, that was fun. We’ll work out prizegiving for later in the year.

Overall Competition

But it’s not over yet. The Overall Competition is still running and will conclude with the Circuit of Chailey on 27 September. None of the contenders can afford to miss it without risking their position.

With Dan and Chris now neck and neck on 50 points, their final position will be decided on the day. Will Dan’s experience and endurance on the demanding Chailey circuit be enough to overcome Chris’s recent superiority in the 10s? Come along to find out. We can hardly wait!

💝 New Bike Day - Paget Cohen

Bought to replace his much-loved 2014 Merida Reacto, written off in an accident, this new carbon aero race bike was sourced and built for Paget by Kontour in Polegate.

The brief was clear: Di2, deep-section wheels and enough speed for Forge Rides and TTs. Just three rides in, it already feels more comfortable and relaxed than its predecessor, yet flies once up to speed. The crisp, precise Di2 shifting has been a revelation too. Most impressively, it helped deliver a 10-mile TT more than 30 seconds quicker than last year’s best — arguably on a slower course. A test on steeper hills is next!

🤩 Ride of the Week

There’s surely only one contender this week: Adam Goward’s monumental five-day LEJOG. At the time of writing, Adam was on the final leg and expected to reach the famous John o’Groats sign late on Thursday. Over five extraordinary days, he will have averaged nearly 300 km (180 miles) and 13 hours in the saddle each day.

Wow, Adam. We’d all like to know what you have for breakfast… and your recommended brand of chamois cream.
