We need more forms completing, please, to confirm the numbers. Partners and children are very welcome.

⛰️ Hill Climb Results

Alex Steer and Alice Gilmore took on the Ditchling Beacon Hill Climb last weekend, the final event of the South Downs Hill Climb Series. Alex crested the summit in a personal best time of 6’29.6”, and Alice in an equally commendable 6’36.5” to claim 7th fastest female.

Extra kudos goes to Alice for her 5th place in the Butt’s Lane climb the week before, which earned her a listing in Cycling Weekly, and her 3rd place in the Queen of the Downs competition for the series - a hint of more success and fame to come 🤞.

A mention too for sisters Gemma and Emily Lewis who have joined several of our recent rides while Emily is visiting from Australia. Emily recorded 6'.36.3” up Ditchling Beacon, and Gemma 7’09.0”. Keep in touch Emily, there’s a Wanderers jersey waiting for you when you’re back!

⚙️ Product Review

E-Pumps

Some inventions change the course of history, like the plough, the automobile, and the internet. The e-pump might just be up there with them.

A pocket-sized box of magic that take the sweat out of a roadside puncture. Put it over the valve, press the button and hold for 1-2 minutes for full inflation.

A couple of points to note:

  1. Remember to check the charge. The charge degrades over long periods of disuse and in cold weather.

  2. The motor gets warm during long inflations. There are reported issues with plastic valves and TPU tubes. None experienced, but keep in mind.

  3. They cost between £60-£100. That’s a lot of CO2 cartridges.

For all that, we’d never leave home without one.
