Rolling News

There’s no official Forge Ride this week, but the Sunday Social will be rolling out regular as clockwork 😀.
To keep you entertained before then, we’ve got an unbelievably compelling (and money-saving) look at third-party insurance options — yes, really — and the final muddy chapter of the cyclo-cross league.
Oh, and one more nudge on a small but important club role that still needs filling.
🚴 Forge Ride - 7 February
Informal gathering this week for those who fancy it. Keep an eye on the group chat. You know the drill. Faster-paced, training ride. Approx 60km.
Roll out: 9:15 am
Duration: Approx. 3 hours, including the coffee stop
Start Location: Forge, Ringmer
Dress Code: Club kit preferred
☕️ Sunday Social - 8 February
Darren is leading this week. Rumour has it that the destination is Charleston, nr. Firle, for the second week running. Jump on board, and all will be revealed.
Roll out: 9:00 am
Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop
Start Location: Forge, Ringmer
Dress Code: Club kit preferred
🛡️Third-Party Indemnity Insurance
Now, here’s a topic to get your blood pumping.
Club Rule 9 (wake up at the back) says all members need third-party indemnity insurance to ride with the club.
Most members default to British Cycling, unless they’re covered elsewhere (for example via Laka). But there is another option.
Clarion Cover offers £5m third-party liability for club rides, leisure riding and touring, worldwide (excluding the USA and Canada). Notably, it excludes competitive events. Cover is included with Clarion CC membership, which costs as little as £12 a year. This makes it a strong, low-cost option for members who aren’t competing. Worth a look 👀.
Hat tip to Richard Roberts for pointing this one out 🎩.
🏁 Racing Update
![]() Anyone seen the jet wash? | The Challenge Tyres London & South East Cyclo Cross League concluded on Sunday. Dan Street, chasing a top-five in the Sussex standings, was taken out at the first corner and fought back bravely to finish 14th. In the same race, Darren Haynes moved steadily through the field to claim 24th of 44 over-50s. |
Georgine Wise overcame a crash and a deflating front tyre to finish ninth in the women’s 30s. And chapeau to Stephen Burgess, who has almost certainly secured the men’s over-70 titles in both the London & South East and Sussex Leagues.
So, that’s a wrap on another muddy cyclo-cross league. Well done to all the regulars who risked bike and washing machine in search of club glory.
Short Sprints
AMS MarshalsAMS-accredited marshals remain in chronically short supply. Road racing, including the Lewes Crits, depends on them. If you like the idea of being at the heart of keeping road racing going in the UK, contact Alex Steer, our only accredited marshal, and he will tell you more. | Strava Tidy UpStrava has deleted 2.3m e-bike activities to tidy up segment leader boards, according to Bike Radar. Ha, so what? E-bikes never beat Lewes Wanderers on segments anyway! |

🙋♂️ Before you go…
We’re still on the lookout for a Club Secretary. Pass the rigorous interview, and you could be in post before the next committee meeting. Contact the chairman if you think you can help 🤩.
Till next time,
