Rolling News

A busy week for the Wanderers, with a couple of genuine club firsts in the mix. The new off-road ride gets underway on Saturday morning, and later that day, we’re swapping pedals for pints with our inaugural communal viewing of Strade Bianche. If you’ve never watched a Spring Classic with a room full of cyclists before, this could be the start of something.
Elsewhere, our season’s first TT is looming on the horizon, and there’s an important call to support the time-keeping side of the sport. We’ve also got Paget’s Spanish Adventure released as a full binge-worthy box set.
Get stuck in!
🌳 Off-Road Ride - 7 March
The waiting is over. The first of our monthly off-road rides rolls out from Bake Out, Lewes on Saturday. Come along and give it a try.
Roll out: 8:30 am
Duration: Approx. 3 hours, including the coffee stop
Start Location: Bake Out, Lewes
Dress Code: Club kit preferred.
🍺 Strade Bianchi - 7 March
Don’t panic, we’re watching it, not riding it! This is another club first - communal watching of the Spring Classics, laid on especially for you. Pop in and give it some support.
From: 1:30 pm
Duration: Approx. 2.5 hours
Location: Black Horse, Lewes
Dress Code: Come as you like!
🚴 Forge Ride - 7 March
Rest week this week. We’d like to give full support to the off-road ride. If you’re a committed roadie, you might find more like you gathering at the Forge.
☕️ Sunday Social - 8 March
Paget is hoping to throw off his classic Spring cold in time to lead. The route will be announced at the start to keep the anticipation high.
Roll out: 9:00 am
Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop
Start Location: Boots, Uckfield
Dress Code: Club kit preferred
🗓️ Another date for your diary - 22 March

Can it be that time already? The first of this season’s TTs - the Circuit of Danehill - takes place on Sunday, March 22.
18 miles (29 km) of fun to gauge your early-season form. Top-tip: this one is a test of pacing as much as speed. Can you hold enough, but not too much, back for the climb from Maresfield to Pippingford?
As always, we will be looking for volunteers to help with marshalling and other small duties. If you can help, please hit this button.
The Circuit of Danehill is traditionally our season curtain raiser, and it’s always good to make it as much about the social aspect as the ride. If you don’t want to ride the TT, drop into Chelwood Village Hall from 9:30 anyway and enjoy a coffee and cake with your club mates.
😀 Talking of TTs - Support our Sport
Hopefully, you will have all seen the recent emails about time-keeping courses. As a club, we urgently need to start succession planning for our inestimable current crop of timekeepers. Richard, Graham and Su assure us they aren’t going anywhere yet, but the time will surely come when they do.
Here’s a reminder of the details. Please email Su if you would like to attend, letting her know your preferred date. If we don’t have timekeepers, we don’t have TTs - it’s as simple as that, folks.

🇪🇸 Wanderers in Spain - Box Set Now Available
Paget has completed his very entertaining write-up of the February group’s exploits on the Costas (that’s Spain, not the chain of coffee shops).
Read the next instalment here, or binge-read the whole series if you want to (we highly recommend the latter).
PS. Tempted? If you think you can get away for a few days at the end of April, it might still be possible to join the group. Contact Maddy for options.
