Rolling News

This week, all eyes are on Monday night’s Women’s 10.

It’s a bit of an experiment for the club, but exactly the kind of experiment we want to run: a friendly, women-focused evening 10 designed to make time-trialling feel more welcoming, more accessible, and a lot less intimidating.

Sign up, come and cheer, spread the word, or give someone the nudge they need to pin on a number.

There’s plenty more in this week’s Rolling News too, including the Forge Ride, Sunday Social, last week’s biblical baptism on the new 10 course, points competition movements, soggy sportive heroics, classic kit, and early thoughts on an end-of-season event.

But first, let’s give the Women’s 10 the support it deserves.

🚴 Forge Ride - Saturday 13 June

The Forge Ride will be heading out on the popular Polegate/Wartling route on Saturday, which means a chance to test both your legs and capacity for coffee. The recovery stop will be at club favourite, The Village Shop, Upper Dicker.

  • Roll out: 9:15 am

  • Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: The Forge, Ringmer

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

☕️ Saturday Social - Saturday 13 June

Or, jump on Paget’s wheel for a steadier effort towards Garden Thyme, Hassocks. Approx 60 km. Zone 2.

  • Roll out: 9:15 am

  • Duration: Approx. 3 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: The Forge, Ringmer

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

☕️ Sunday Social - Sunday 14 June

Paget will be leading on Sunday as well, this time to Helen Garden, Eastbourne. (We’re assuming Helen won’t mind). Approx 75 km. Socially paced.

  • Roll out: 8:30 am

  • Duration: Approx. 4 hours, including the coffee stop.

  • Start Location: Boots, Uckfield (with pick-up from Forge, Ringmer 9:00 am)

  • Dress Code: Club kit expected

🏁 Women’s 10 - Monday 15 June

Event #3 in our Evening 10 Series is our Women’s 10 - a friendly, female-focused Evening 10 encouraging women of all abilities to give time-trialling a go. If you’re not taking part, come and give the participants a cheer.

🏁 Evening 10 Series

Last Week’s Results

Monday’s event will likely be remembered for the sudden rainstorm that biblically baptised our new 10 course.

Undeterred, Calum Elms rocketed round in 22:34 on his road bike to set a high bar for the course record.

Dan Gohl came in second in 23:51, and Chris Hurcomb continued his rapid progress in third with a personal best of 24:40.

Olivia Webb was the sole rider in the women’s competition, but crossed the line in an impressive 26:35.

Points Competition

Dan Street’s fourth place tightened his grip on the overall standings. His six points take him to 32 overall and give him a useful early cushion at the top.

Behind him, Calum Elms made the biggest move of the week, backing up his strong debut on 1 June with a win. That maximum 12-point haul lifts him to third overall on 22 points, just two behind Michael Renardson. Chris Hurcomb also continues to climb, adding eight points to move into fourth place on 18.

With four events now counted, the early pattern is clear: regular riding is starting to matter as much as speed. Dan leads because he has scored well every time, but with plenty of events still to come, the leaderboard remains very much alive.

✨✨ Women’s 10 ✨✨

This week’s Evening 10 is focused on our women members and guests.

First time in a TT, returning after a break, or a regular, we’ve created an event with women front and centre - a course that avoids the A-roads, offers a friendly, encouraging environment, and a promising weather forecast!

No special kit is needed, just a road or TT bike, a helmet, and working front and rear lights. You don’t need to be fast; you just need to be willing to give it a go.

Tempted? We need you to sign up in advance so we can organise the start sheet and create the best event possible. Don’t overthink it. Hit that button now!

If you have any questions about the 10, please contact Women’s Rep, Mugs Gohl, who promises to pin a number on, too.

NB: Men can still ride and record a time, but will start at the back of the field, and with a suitable time gap to keep the women’s competition clear.

🌳 Wary in Gang Warily

Third time lucky? Not quite. But after two previous attempts to ride a UK Velo sportive in good weather, four determined Wanderers headed back to the New Forest for another go.

What followed was another epic day of rain, wind, punctures, feed-stop confusion, failing brakes, village hall diplomacy and, eventually, a hard-earned century.

And then there was the mysterious rider in the sleeveless tri-suit…

🎉 End-of-Summer Ride

Talking about the end of summer might seem a bit premature, but let us set the scene …

An off-road ride with a choice of 50 km or 100 km courses; a 100 km road ride for those who prefer tarmac. We ride, then everyone meets in the same place at the end for an end-of-season pizza and beer, with friends and family invited too.

What do you think? Should we organise it? Give us your opinion in the form.
